I would like to watch an Aikido session before I train - is this possible?
Of course. We would highly recommend you watch a class before you decide to train to get a feel for the dojo, it's members and the martial art.
I would like to train but I'm not sure what to wear...
Please wear loose fitting clothing such as old tracksuit bottoms and T-shirt. Eventually if you wish to continue to train you will need to purchase a training uniform known as a 'dogi' (pronounced 'dough gee'). These are relatively inexpensive (currently about £30) and are essential in order to progress with training.
How much is each lesson and is there an introductory course I can do?
The club charges a monthly membership rather than individual mat fees. The membership for the club is extremely competitive and the details are as follows:
Regular Members
Meikyokai joining fee: £10.00 (payable once you have completed the Introductory Course)
Monthly membership: £25.00 (payable by standing order or post-dated cheques. No cash please.)
Annual BAA insurance: £25.00 (£15.00 under 18s, unemployed and OAP - this is compulsory and you cannot train in any martial art without valid PI insurance)
Introductory Aikido Class
This is the perfect way to introduce people to the basic principles of Aikido.
Introductory Class: 10 weeks, Monday evenings 8pm - 9pm
Introductory Class fee: £60 (non-refundable) payable in advance of starting the class. This fee also includes your BAA insurance fee.
At the end of the course students will be presented with a quality, signed certificate to acknowledge their achievement. And you will have earned it!
How long will it take me to get my black belt?
Meikyokai follows the grading syllabus of the British Aikido Association. With diligent and constant training one can usually grade for their black belt within four to five years.

Is there more information available?
There are some excellent sources referenced in 'Related Links'. Also over the coming months this web site is going to be regularly updated to include a number of articles and practice information. Look under the Aikido Practice section on this web site for more information.
